Primary research areas

Science Cities & Innovation Ecosystems

I explore the characteristics and evolutionary patterns of Science Cities as a new type of functional area. My research focuses on how to better foster an innovation ecosystem through policy guidance and support.

National Innovation Systems (NIS)

My work discusses the synergy between proactive government and efficient markets to enhance the overall performance of national innovation systems. I am particularly interested in comparative studies between the Danish (European) and Chinese innovation systems.

Science Diplomacy

Science diplomacy as a strategic tool to transcend political divides and foster international collaboration. I am interested in its significant role in advancing global scientific and technological influence, safeguarding national security, and addressing global challenges.

Industrial Policy & Geoeconomics

I am currently interested in the policy design for strategic sectors such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) and critical minerals.

My research interests

Developing Science Cities is a strategic choice to follow the global trend of innovation clustering and to enhance national competitiveness. It is a common path for countries worldwide to strengthen their innovation capabilities by building core spatial hubs.

My research aims to create an integrated framework to understand how science city innovation ecosystems work. Through comparative studies, I explore the Isomorphism and Difference among major science cities in terms of institutional design, organizational structures, and policy tools, thereby understanding the evolutionary patterns of the science city innovation ecosystem.

In a changing global landscape, I hope to use these international insights to provide practical policy advice for the high-quality and sustainable development of science cities in China.
