Strategic Management and Social Impact
Addressing societal challenges through private sector action requires examining how firms engage new technologies and work with multiple stakeholders, such as public sector and nonprofits, while balancing social impact and commercial goals. My research explores strategies that enhance performance while advancing solutions to social problems.
Leadership and Social Impact
Private-sector leaders face mounting pressure to address social challenges while managing demands from shareholders and stakeholders. Navigating this tension requires unique skills to reconcile social impact with performance. My research examines how leaders manage these trade-offs to guide firms toward sustainable financial and societal outcomes.
Skilling, Reskilling, and Upskilling as a Competitive Strategy
Organizations increasingly seek to align performance with social impact, yet success often hinges on educating leaders and workers. Building capabilities to manage societal challenges demands new training and incentives. My research explores when and how education enables firms to integrate strategy with meaningful impact.

My research examines how leaders from private organizations can better manage the tensions of pursuing superior performance while providing solutions to pressing societal challenges.

I specialize in the study and teaching of private-sector strategies for social impact. Currently, I also hold the CBS Executive Fonden Assistant Professor Chair in Leadership at the Copenhagen Business School.

My research examines how private organizations (e.g., for-profit, non-profit, and social organizations) and their leaders can manage the tensions of pursuing superior performance while providing solutions to pressing societal challenges, such as expanding access to critical public services.

My research has been published in prestigious academic journals, such as the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory. It has also been cited in the general and specialized press, such as the New York Times, Fortune, Inc., Business Insider, Vox, MarketWatch, and Harvard Business Review online. My research, teaching, and service contributions to the Strategic Management community have also received multiple awards and recognitions.

I am originally from Brazil, where I engaged in consulting for private-public collaborations, developing projects with multilateral organizations (e.g., the International Finance Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank) and state agencies.

Previously, I was a Researcher at the Harvard Business School, a visiting Professor at INSEAD, and an Academic Fellow at the SDA Bocconi School of Management. I earned a Ph.D. in Business Economics from the Insper Institute of Education and Research, with a research stay at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
