What is Capital IQ?

Capital IQ includes financial data and information on more than 63,000 listed and 4.5 million private companies, as well as data on markets, industries and individuals. In total, the platform covers more than 11 million companies, of which around 10.9 million are active.

Data for company valuation

Capital IQ offers extensive coverage of financial statements, balance sheets, income statements and cash flows – all central components in valuation models. You can compare companies across industries and countries, track historical developments in key figures and extract data to calculate EBITDA multiples, P/E ratios or WACC components.

Transactions, market data and comparable companies

A key part of valuation is understanding what similar companies are worth, whether listed or part of an acquisition. The Transactions module gives you details on past mergers, acquisitions and IPOs, including purchase prices, multiples and the parties involved. This gives you a realistic market perspective on what companies are actually being traded for.

You can also use Comparable Companies Analysis and Precedent Transactions to tailor comparisons based on size, industry, geography and other factors. The Markets section provides macroeconomic indicators and industry-specific trends to help you validate assumptions and adjust valuations to the broader economic context.

Industry reports, trends and macroeconomic factors

Under the Markets tab, you will find information on industries, countries, commodities and macroeconomics, ideal for placing an industry in context. You can follow developments in, for example, oil prices, interest rates or GDP growth and analyse how these factors affect specific industries.

The Key Developments function makes it easy to track news and events that influence the industry, such as regulatory changes, strategic partnerships or new competitors.

Research Reports provide access to industry reports from investment banks, consulting firms and analysis companies. These include growth forecasts, risk factors and technology trends. You will find analyses from Investext here.

Supplementary data for deeper analysis

If you want insight into future expectations or management strategy, you can use Transcripts from earnings calls and presentations.

The People Intelligence module gives access to management and board profiles from 2003 onwards – useful when assessing governance or leadership competencies.
