My research explores how new forms of organizing shape collaboration and leadership in practice. I am interested in how radical decentralization and self-organizing are being emphasized and applied as a new way to create value for public organizations.
My PhD project investigates how the concept of Teal (Laloux, 2014) has been translated into a drug and rehabilitation center and a medical department at a regional hospital. I focus on how employee dynamics, such as well-being, conflicts and psychosocial aspects of collaboration changes in decentralized management systems; and also how organizational structures and processes can be designed to guide self-organizing and distribute responsibilities from managers to various organizational actors.
I am interested in complexity theory and the notion of complex adaptive systems to investigate self-organizing as a potential way to create organizational emergent order without (or with less) hierarchical structures. I find literature emphasizing decentralized organizing interesting, where concepts such as Teal, Holacracy and Sociocracy emerge as novel ideas for both public and private self-managing organizations.
