Accounting professionalization
My research generally revolves around the role of state, professional bodies, and accounting firms in professional accounting development; the (re)shaping of accountants' identities in organizational settings.

I uncover what makes the accounting profession meaningful and attractive

Wenjun Wen holds a PhD in Accounting and Auditing from Lund University, Sweden (2021). He was a visiting researcher at the Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research (SCANCOR), Stanford University, USA. Before pursuing his doctoral studies, he practiced as an auditor at Deloitte in China, an experience that grounds his academic work in real-world professional practice.

Wenjun Wen’s research primarily focuses on accounting professionalization—the processes through which accounting evolves as a recognized profession. His work explores how the state, professional bodies, and accounting firms interact to influence not only the structural development of the profession but also the identities of accountants.

The value and significance of studying accounting professionalization lie in its ability to illuminate the complex interplay between economic, political, and social institutions that govern modern economies. A clearer understanding of accounting professionalization helps strengthen the relevance of accounting in addressing emerging economic and social issues, supports retention by fostering stronger professional identity and commitment among practitioners, and enhances respect by reinforcing public trust.

In essence, Wenjun Wen’s research contributes to broader discussions on the sociology of professions and institutional change, emphasizing how accounting professionalization both shapes and reflects societal transformations in governance, economy, and organization.
