The Centre for Sustainability is pleased to highlight a new article by Jette Steen Knudsen, Erin Leitheiser and Jeremy Moon: “Media portrayals of post-Rana Plaza CSR initiatives for worker safety: Perspectives on legitimacy from Bangladesh, the UK and the USA” published in Asian Business & Management (Nov 2025).

This paper from the Danida-funded Regulating International Supply Chains research project compares Bangladeshi media coverage of responses to the Rana Plaza disaster with that of media in the UK / USA, home country of many of the MNCs implicated. The latter show great interest in the design of the initiatives, whereas the latter are more concerned with their implementation and the competitiveness of the industry. Both appear to neglect worker perspectives.
