CBS joins international movement focusing on societal impact of research

Copenhagen Business School has joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) – an international initiative working to develop a broader and more nuanced understanding of research quality

Across Europe and increasingly worldwide, universities and research foundations are rethinking what ‘quality’ in research truly means. The movement is about recognising that the value of research cannot be measured by numbers alone but also by the ideas it generates and the difference it makes in society.

“This is an important step for CBS,” says President Peter Møllgaard, and continues:

“We want to help shape how research will be assessed in the future. For us, good research is not only about academic excellence but also how knowledge contributes to creating positive change in the world.”

A research culture in motion

With more than 600 universities, research organisations and foundations as members, CoARA has become a global platform for knowledge sharing and the development of new approaches to research assessment.

“CBS takes a broad and societal perspective. Joining CoARA is a natural extension of that approach. Metrics are still important, but they should be complemented by qualitative assessments of the content and impact of research,” says Peter Møllgaard.

For CBS, joining CoARA is not about replacing one system with another but about contributing to a research culture in motion built on reflection, collaboration and learning, within the university and in dialogue with the international research community and society at large.
