Recent publication: Contested Consultations in the Extractive Industries
Co-edited by Professor Karin Buhmann, this new volume explores stakeholder and rightsholder consultations in various contexts representing the countries, communities and contestations around extractives in the Global South and the High North.
Drawing on a range of actual cases as well as interdisciplinary social science perspectives, the 20 chapters explore processes, rights and tensions.
All chapters in the book are available open access (without charge) at https://www.taylorfrancis.com
Professor Buhmann has co-authored three chapters: the Introduction, placing 'Contested stakeholder consultations in global comparative perspective', and the conclusion, 'Beyond contested stakeholder consultations: a regime in flux', both written with the full team of editors.
Co-authored with colleagues in a research project on meaningful rights-and stakeholder engagement in the Arctic, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Arctic Cooperation Programme, professor Buhmann has authored the chapter on 'Meaningful engagement of affected people and communities: Exploring tensions between formal requirements and lived experiences of public participation in impact assessments'.
