Course content
This course considers legal and ethical aspects of design and architecture business and entrepreneurship.
The aim is to provide students with theoretical, practical and strategic insights into societal contexts and externatlities of contemporary design and architecture including issues of sustainability, technology, law, culture and social devlopments.
Course lectures will provide opportunities to examine and discuss ways in which ethical and legal frameworks condition the creation of intellectual properties by designers and architects as well as potentials for transformative value creation in strategic design.
Literatures and theories of business ethics and design ethics; digtal transformations; sustainability and circular economy; intellectual property and related law and models for design and architecture as agents of change will be investigated as approaches for sustaining societal and commercial value of design and architecture. Based on a solid understanding of diverse approaches and their interplay, the course will enable students to act ethically and legally attuned as future entrepreneurs, managers and strategic designers.
Real-life cases and guest lectures will complement readings and class activities in demonstrating the contribution of design and architecture to transformative business that pays heed to social, legal, environmental and ethical challenges of today.
