Primary research areas

Decision-Making

How can individuals and firms make better choices? My research develops tools for structuring multi-criteria decisions, emphasizing investigation, communication, and choice.

Contracts and Games

How can cooperation be sustained under conflict and asymmetric information? My research analyzes contracting and game settings, offering models and solutions to align incentives.

Performance Evaluation

How can performance be measured? My research advances frontier-based methods combining mathematical programming and econometrics for benchmarking involving multiple performance dimensions.

Applied Regulation

How can natural monopolies like water, gas and electricity networks be disciplined without competition? My research develops benchmarking-based incentives and applies it to regulations in numerous sectors and countries.

Applied Benchmarking

How can different firms and sectors be evaluated and how can it guide sharing of best practices? My research benchmarks manufacturing companies, banks, hospitals, schools, municipalities, countries etc. and develops interactive tools to support learning.

Applied Contracts and Cooperatives

How can contracts and cooperatives solve coordination, incentive, and transaction costs problems? My research combines theory and practice to design production and outsourcing contracts, fair rules for costs and surplus allocations, transfer pricing etc.

Sound Theory and Real Impact

Peter Bogetoft has published more than 100 scientific articles and seven books, contributing to areas such as planning, accounting, political economy, mechanism design, decision theory, industrial organization, cooperatives, contracting, and software development. His research spans from pure theory to empirical testing and normative applications.

Peter Bogetoft has collaborated with industry and government bodies in many countries on the application of theory, particularly in decision making, contract design, regulation, and benchmarking.

Peter Bogetoft has also co-founded three research spin-offs: one specializing in network regulation, one developing and implementing interactive benchmarking software, and one combining encrypted computation with mechanism design and blockchain technology.
