New Department Head: “We Can Make an Even Greater Impact”

Christoph Grimpe will take over as Head of the Department of Strategy and Innovation at CBS this December, bringing both experience and ambition to the role. One of his key priorities is to strengthen the department’s societal impact.

“We have an incredibly strong foundation—not only for conducting excellent research but also for ensuring that our results make a real difference in society,” says Christoph Grimp. And the new head of the Department of Strategy and Innovation elaborates:

“The department’s research is built around four core areas: strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business. This gives us a solid platform to address real-world dilemmas and provide concrete, research-based answers.”

“ We’re not here to become consultants. But I hope we can enhance our societal impact. ” Christoph Grimpe, new Department Head

With this, the German-born professor signals a desire for researchers to engage even more actively with companies, organizations, and other stakeholders in their work.

“We’re not here to become consultants. But I hope we can enhance our societal impact. We should make the most of our partnerships with Danish and international companies so that our research contributes to solving real-world challenges,” Grimpe explains.

Three Strong Pillars

Deputy President Inger Askehave emphasizes that the department is already in a strong position, but that the goal is to further develop the unit to an even higher level:

“I would like to highlight Christoph’s clear vision of leading the department based on three strong pillars: academic excellence, collegiality, and societal engagement,” she says, underlining the importance of the department’s commitment to societal impact.”

“Christoph wants to expand relations with decision-makers, the business community, and the wider public. He sees it as our responsibility not only to deliver world-class research, but also to translate it into practice, enrich our teaching, and increase the visibility of SI’s work. This aligns perfectly with CBS’s overall strategy,” she adds.

Christoph Grimpe will take over from Keld Laursen, who has decided to return to his professorship.
