About
Passion for Digital Technologies and Sustainability
I am passionate about leveraging digital technologies to advance sustainable transformation. My research examines strategic opportunities where innovation—particularly digitalization—can reshape sociotechnical processes and create improved lasting impact.
After more than 30 years of experience in international industrial organizations, I decided to transition into academia to bridge the gap between research and business practice. My research focuses on digital platforms and infrastructures, including ERP systems, e-commerce, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)—all increasingly explored through the lens of sustainability.
My Industrial Ph.D., conducted in collaboration with Maersk, focused on enhancing containerized shipping through the design, prototyping, and piloting of innovative digital solutions to accelerate the digitalization of global supply chains. Following this, through a funded project in collaboration with industry associations and colleagues, I explored digital strategies to expand e-export opportunities for Danish businesses via dedicated digital e-commerce platforms
More recently, as part of a government-funded project in collaboration with several academic institutions, an industry cluster of businesses and their member companies, we researched how digitalization can transform the fashion and design furniture sectors towards a sustainable circular economy. This includes developing digital twins of products, accessible through IoT and secured by blockchain technologies; a concept soon to be realized as part of the EU’s Green Deal and Circular Economy Plan through the rollout of the Digital Product Passport across product categories market in Europe.
Currently, as part of an EU-funded project conducted in collaboration with academic institutions, business hubs, and SMEs, the research examines the intersection of sustainability (e.g., biodiversity) and digital technologies (e.g., AI), with a focus on enabling SMEs to experiment with and adopt AI to boost both their business performance and sustainability efforts simultaneously.
