Major Nordforsk grant for research on social media influence
Dennis Schoeneborn and colleagues have been awarded funding for a research project about social media: “The Double Edge of Social Media Influencing: Participatory Antagonism and Communicative Resilience in the Nordics”
The Centre for Sustainability is pleased to announce that a research proposal by Professor Dennis Schoeneborn from CBS together with colleagues from Lund University and the University of Helsinki has been selected for funding by NordForsk. The proposal was one of only 7 projects funded out of 84 proposals, with a total budget of approximately €1 million.
The funded project, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘀”, will run from 2026-2029.

The project has two main objectives:
To improve understanding of the impact of antagonistic social media influencing on societal security and democratic trust, particularly among young people in vulnerable communities.
To develop strategies that can mitigate harmful influencing on social media and promote democratic resilience, potentially by engaging influencers as allies in defending democratic values.
We congratulate Dennis and all partners involved on this important achievement!
