More applicants for undergraduate programmes
With courses in European business and project management, CBS seems to be meeting the dreams for the future of young people. Combined, the two new programmes have received every fifth application for admission, says Wilbert van der Meer, head of the secretariat at the Dean's Office, Education.
- The new programmes are popular and this underlines the need to constantly develop up-to-date programmes at universities, he says.
Asia attracts students
The new BSc programme in Business Administration and Project Management is aimed at practical use and builds on a solid foundation of business economics skills while focusing on planning and implementing projects in businesses and organisations.
Other programmes focusing on Asia are also attracting new students. The Asian Studies Programmes with language skills in Chinese and Japanese have received 23% and 68% more applicants respectively. The year’s most popular programme was again BSc in Economics and Business Administration, which had 2,162 applicants, followed by BSc in Project Management, with 1,748 applicants, European Business, with 1,070 applicants, and BSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law and BA in Intercultural Market Communication, which both had 1,029 applicants.
15,030 applications this year
There was a fall in the number of first-priority applications for several programmes. According to Wilbert van der Meer, this is because the two new programmes, European Business and Project Management, received many first-priority applications that gave a prospect of a very high average for admission.
- Many of the applicants had also applied for another programme at CBS or at another educational institution, he explains and continues:
- We hope that the applicants who didn’t get in here find a good alternative.
CBS received a total of 15,030 applicants for admission to a bachelor’s degree. This is an increase of 10% compared with 2012. First-priority applications totalled 5,040, a 2% increase.
