In capitalist societies, our everyday lives are shaped by the flow of money through corporations. I study how the firms’ value-maximizing decisions are related to other stakeholders of society. How do firms adjust their financing or investment decisions in response to changes in incentives, regulations, and external market pressures? Are those decisions to maximize the value of shareholders? Do firms’ maximization of shareholder values positively or negatively affect the welfare of several stakeholders of society, including employees, consumers, philanthropic beneficiaries, and other citizens, via environmental protection?
