Primary research areas

Spatial frictions and economic development
I investigate the impacts of spatial frictions (e.g., movement costs, trade costs, transportation costs etc.) on key development indicators in low- and middle-income countries.
Market and non-market interactions in spatial economies
I investigate the impact of government policy on location choice in market economies.
Urban economics
I investigate what determines the structure of cities – answering questions such as “who lives where and why?” and “where does production take place and why?”.

“Location, location, location”

My research deals with the economic causes and consequences of location choice – where do people choose to live, where do companies choose to produce, and how does this affect property markets, the benefits of infrastructure investments, human welfare, and economies at large? My research has implications for policy makers across the globe, dealing both with the challenges faced by governments in developing and developed economies.
