Application deadline

Department of Business Humanities and Law, Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a full-time faculty position as Associate Professor in Business Ethics.

Business Ethics at the Department of Business Humanities and Law encompasses research at the intersection of ethical theory and organizational practice. We invite applications from candidates who can strengthen our profile in humanistic approaches to business ethics. The successful candidate is expected to advance research that engages foundational philosophical questions while addressing the complex moral dilemmas faced by contemporary organizations, including grand challenges such as climate change, inequality, and digital transformation.

We seek a scholar with strong competencies in moral philosophy (broadly understood) and a demonstrated ability to apply and develop ethical theory in relation to concrete organizational challenges. The position emphasizes the integration of rigorous conceptual work with empirical sensitivity to how ethical issues unfold in business contexts. This presupposes a strong profile in applied ethics to analyze business and organizational life across.

Examples of research areas that the Associate Professor might cover include:

  • Applied ethical theory, i.e., virtue ethics, deontology, critical theory, phenomenology, or related traditions, and their use in understanding, critiquing, and empirically investigating business and organizational life
  • The application of ethical perspectives to core areas such as responsible management, DEI, compliance, leadership, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence
  • The role of ethical analysis in examining organizational practices through context-sensitive approaches that account for cultural variation and shifting institutional and geopolitical dynamics

The core research areas of the Department of Business Humanities and Law are organized into different research Units: Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership; Governance, Culture and Learning; and CBS Law. Faculty within these groups have research backgrounds in all areas of political science, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, law, theology, aesthetics, design and innovation, tourism and leisure management, cultural economics, leadership and strategy, pedagogic study, and other areas. This position will be based in the Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership unit.

What unites faculty in our department is an overriding concern for the organization of the human within its multiple environments: work, nature, economy, civil association, the state, and corporation. BHL also participates in numerous interdisciplinary cross-CBS activities. In line with this concern, the professor should demonstrate a capacity to bridge across several of these environments and place the human at the heart of the project.

Teaching responsibilities of the Department comprise undergraduate and graduate teaching as well as teaching in post-experience and doctoral education. Some programs are taught in Danish, some in English.

The Associate Professorship is a permanent position with research and teaching obligations.

Successful applicants must have an international profile, a strong record of research publications, and teaching experience in business ethics, broadly understood to include philosophy, management, entrepreneurship, strategy, organization, and leadership. They must be capable of providing dynamic leadership in the development of research and teaching, securing external research funding, establishing strong ties with organizations, and generating meaningful societal impact.

Furthermore, the chosen applicant is expected to show good academic citizenship, meaning that the person is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the activities of the department, such as research seminars, workshops, and conferences.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs, including Executive Education
