Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Assistant Professorship in Energy Economics (fixed-term) at the Department of Economics

The Department of Economics provides research, teaching and knowledge transfer within the core areas of economics, i.e. microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods. The Department is especially active in business-related, applied economic research, and comprises two research centres: Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI) and Pension Research Centre (PeRCent). In terms of research activities, the post will be attached to CSEI.

The position includes both research and teaching obligations. The candidate will be expected to be physically present on campus on a regular basis and actively participate in the research activities of CSEI.  

Research focus and responsibilities

The appointed Assistant Professor is expected to strengthen and contribute to the development, external funding, and promotion of research areas of CSEI. Much of our research is focused on European energy issues, while we also have a global research outlook – the applicant should be familiar with the European energy policy landscape and in particular with regard to grid infrastructure and regulation.
The research priorities and strategy of CSEI are decided by the Director of the centre. The focus areas of our research include, but are not limited to, the following areas of applied energy economics, regulation, and policy research:

• Energy Economics
• Economic regulation of energy networks and infrastructure with a special focus on European regulation of the energy grid and the role of TSOs and DSOs
• Energy system integration, sector coupling, renewable integration - e.g., power-to-X, low carbon technologies, and offshore renewables
• Competitiveness and the energy transition
• Application of digital methodologies and technologies in energy economics and regulation
• Energy and green finance

The assistant professorship is a fixed term position for 4 years with research and teaching obligations.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant(s) chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department. The successful applicant is obliged to participate in the assistant professor program at CBS on teaching principles and methods in order to fulfill the pedagogical requirements made at the end of the term of employment as assistant professor.

CBS and departmental responsibilities

• Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs 
• Individual and group based research meeting high international standards 
• Promoting CBS’s academic reputation 
• Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects 
• Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of CBS and other relevant assignments at CBS
• Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the department and to CBS-wide tasks 
• Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular 
• Research, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline 
• Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching 
• Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences. 

The assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of CSEI and the department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position. 

Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI)
The Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI) is a highly specialised European research centre at the Department of Economics at the Copenhagen Business School and cooperates closely with the European Commission. At CSEI we are mainly focused on economic and policy research aspects of European energy issues. At the same time, we maintain a global outlook to energy challenges of our time. CSEI is funded by stakeholders from the energy sector. The position is part of the center's research team.

Qualification 

The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production. 

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.

A maximum of 10 publications for review are allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritise their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement. 
7. Copies of the publications marked with an *. Only publications written in English (or another specified principal language, according to research tradition) or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration. 

Recruitment procedure 

The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.

The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.

Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
