Classes for 2-week and 3-week courses will be taught every weekday. Course changes and withdrawal

Switching courses

After the application round is over, there will be very limited possibilities to change courses. We will overbook all courses in relation to the number of places in each course. So even if someone else withdraws, this will not necessarily leave a place to be filled.

Course changes and cancellations

The summer course offer is subject to student interest and enrolment. Due to unforeseen circumstances there might be changes to the course offer which can happen up until the beginning of the programme. Changes will be communicated without delay.

Course withdrawal

Students can withdraw from courses depending on the student category.

  • CBS Elective Students can withdraw on 24 May 2024 (end of third application round) at the latest through the Online Student Service. After deadline your registration is binding and you must apply for an exemption to withdraw. Further information at my.cbs.dk. Any questions regarding withdrawal from electives must be directed to Student Hub
  • CBS Mandatory Students must get a dispensation from their Study Board
  • Nominated Exchange Students must contact their coordinator who will afterwards contact us. Deadline for withdrawing is TBA
  • Credit Transfer Students, Non-European Freemovers and Open University Students can withdraw by writing to summer@cbs.dk no later than TBA

Preliminary assignment and feedback activity

3-week and 6-week courses include a Preliminary Assignment. The workload is approx. 20 hours.

For bachelor level courses: The Nordic Nine pre-course is foundational for the summer university and identical for all courses. Students will receive an invitation with all details by the end of May. The assignment has two parts. 1.) online lectures and tutorials that students can access at their own time and 2.) one synchronous workshop which will be offered both online and in-person at several dates and times before the official start of the summer university courses. Sign-up is first come first serve. All students are expected to complete this assignment before classes begin.

For graduate level courses: The course coordinator uploads Preliminary Assignment on Canvas at the end of May. It is expected that students participate as it will be included in the final exam, but the assignment is without independent assessment and grading. (Subject to change in 2024)

There is no Preliminary Assignment for 2-week courses.

Feedback Activity

The course responsible decides how the feedback is given. It could be, for instance, some sort of feedback for all (based on a test, quiz, group presentation etc.), and for courses with a project exam/home assignment an approval of a research question/problem formulation for the exam project. For further information see the course description.

Course literature

Pre-course readings

3-week and 6-week courses include Preliminary Assignments that will be announced on CBS Canvas (e-learning platform) at the end of May. Further information under Preliminary assignment and feedback activity above.

Will I have full access to the library and its facilities?

Students enrolled in CBS Summer University will be given access to the library facilities, as well as to all electronic journals that CBS subscribes to.

Do I need to buy literature and text books for all my courses?

CBS library tries to have a copy of the required literature for each course, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be available to you, since you will be sharing this resource with many other students. Therefore, we advise students to buy the required text(s) (see the course descriptions) and use the CBS Library for supplementary reading. Please note sharing of textbooks during an exam is strictly prohibited.

Where can I buy the literature for my courses?

Information about author, title, publisher and ISBN number is available in the course descriptions. For further information regarding the course literature, please contact the course coordinator.

CBS Canvas (e-learning platform)

What is CBS Canvas?

  • Students find course information, preliminary assignments, additional material etc.
  • Students post messages and communicate with their instructor and fellow students

How do I get access?

After you have been admitted to the programme, you will receive your CBS username and password by mid/end May and then have access CBS Canvas

Link to CBS Canvas can also be found at my.cbs.dk

ECTS credits and class attendance

Each 3-week and 6-week course is worth 7.5 ECTS credits, and two 6-week courses are equal to half a semester's full course load at CBS.

The workload for 3-week and 6-week courses is 206 student work hours per course, and this includes participating in classes, course reading, group work and exams/written projects. A large portion of the learning process is outside of class, so students should be prepared to spend plenty of time reading before the start of the programme as well as during the programme.

Each 2-week course is worth 2.5 ECTS credits - the workload is 70 student work hours per course.

At Danish universities class attendance is not mandatory*. However, CBS Summer University is a very intensive programme, so we strongly recommend that all students attend and actively participate in all classes.

*Participation in 2-week courses requires that the student has attended at least 80% of the class sessions.

Grading and Transcripts

Grades for all summer courses are based 100% on the final exam. You can see your grades on the Online Student Service no later than 4 weeks after your exam.

The 7-point grading scale

The Danish grading scale is used throughout the education system in Denmark, including university programmes. The grading scale is compatible with the European ECTS grading scale and your performance is assessed according to the extent that you have met the specific academic goals set for your specific course. Read more about the 7-point grading scale.

Transcripts

CBS International Office is going green and you will thus receive a digital transcript.

We only email encrypted transcripts and do not send transcripts in paper versions.

In October we will send you a transcript with passed grades for the ordinary exam.

Exchange students from CBS's partner universities: We will email the transcript directly to your coordinator at your home university.

Other student categories: We will email the transcript to your CBS email address. NOTE: Only to your CBS email address.

If you do not pass the ordinary exams, we will send a new transcript after the 1st retake (approx. end-November) with the new grades. If you pass one of your ordinary exams, this grade will still appear on the new transcript.

If you do not pass the 1st retake, we will send a new transcript after the 2nd retake with the new grades.

CBS students taking summer courses as elective courses or mandatory courses will not receive a transcript/certificate for CBS Summer University. Your grades will appear on the Online Student Service as well as on your final degree transcript.
