STEFFEN BRENNER, PROFESSOR MSO:
Corporate Governance and Inequality

Abstract:
Concerns are mounting about the substantial increase in income inequality in the U.S. and elsewhere over the past three decades. Since the emergence of "super-wages" paid to executives at large firms is one of the main drivers of this trend, Steffen asks to what extent changes in the corporate governance practices may have contributed to this development. He discusses a new concept of "vulnerable identities" and shows how it may help to understand why some corporate governance reforms had unintended consequences for the wage structure at many firms.

Short Bio:
Steffen Brenner is Professor MSO for Corporate Governance. His main research focus is on managerial behavior, and he employs a range of methods from economics, social psychology and other fields to understand managerial decision making and predict corporate outcomes.

PETER GAMMELTOFT, PROFESSOR MSO:
Outward Investment from Emerging Economies and International Business

Abstract:
Outward direct investment from emerging economies has grown dramatically in recent decades. From USD12 billion and a 5 percent share of total world outflows in 1990, at USD468 billion in 2014 outward investment from developing and transition economies has grown to comprise 35 percent of global FDI and most of this growth has taken place over the last decade. Not only is this development cause of great promise and great concern among companies and governments, it also challenges extant international business theory in important ways. This lecture will take stock of recent developments in outward direct investment from emerging economies and discuss its theoretical implications with a particular emphasis on technology-seeking investments.

Short Bio:
Peter Gammeltoft's research focuses on economic and technological change, particularly globalization of innovation, with East Asia as the primary area specialization. Currently, he is working on projects concerning outward investments from emerging economies. He is Program Director of Graduate Diploma in International Business and teaches subjects in international business and emerging economies. Prior to pursuing an academic career he worked in management consulting.
