Erik Braun is Associate Professor of Marketing and Tourism at the Department of Marketing and joined CBS in 2019. Erik holds a M.Sc. in Economics & Business (with distinction) and a Ph.D. in City Marketing from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Erik is one of the first scholars to publish on city marketing and published also in city branding. Erik prioritizes the effectiveness of place branding strategies, the interplay between private and public sector stakeholders in managing and communicating place brands in an increasingly competitive and digital marketplace.

In his tourism research the focus is on using big data to understand tourism behavior (revealed preferences), tourist’s perceptions and more effective tourism management (e.g. over-tourism) and including social and psychological effects and attitudes in extraordinarily (crisis) situations.

Erik’s work is published in top journals such as Tourism Management, Public Administration Review and Urban Studies.
