Critical Digital Methods Lab
Critical Digital Methods Lab explores, develops, and assesses digital methods for academic research and learning, with a focus on experimentation, interdisciplinarity, and blended teaching practices.
About Critical Digital Methods Lab
Critical Digital Methods Lab seeks to critically experiment, develop, and evaluate new methods for academic research and learning in digital environments. The lab engages with leading critical digital methods through networked experimentation and academic discipline to co-develop a shared resource pool for the interdisciplinary field.
The lab pushes the scope and application of critical digital methods as tools for academic research while providing space for experimentation with blended learning initiatives. It develops teaching modules for study programmes across CBS and aims to activate its research and results with students enrolled in BSc Digital Management and HA/CM(kom).
Research and teaching focus
The research and teaching conducted by the lab revolve around three pillars: data collection, data analysis, and data ethics. These pillars are explored both quantitatively and qualitatively.
The lab’s work includes guidance and knowledge exchange on digital data sources and their limitations, open-source tools, development of new research tools, ethnographic approaches to digital and digitised data, digital sociological methods for observing behaviour in online environments, and critical reflection on data and methods in scholarly, governmental, and corporate settings.
Activities
The lab facilitates internal workshops and seminars for CBS researchers and students, develops teaching modules across CBS, and offers ongoing guidance for staff, researchers, and thesis students. It also organises open workshops and webinars for a wider community of researchers, leaders, and stakeholders in the field and the tech industry, and it publishes critical methods tools.
