Primary research areas
I research how people develop skills at work and how digital technologies, work practices, and learning processes influence each other in today’s AI-driven world.
My scholarly trajectory demonstrates sustained engagement with theory-driven, practice- and policy-relevant research in learning and technology. I have researched a range of inter-related topics across domains including higher education, the energy and finance sectors, and the platform economy. My research is grounded in learning sciences, psychology, sociology, organisational studies, and philosophy of technology, with a focus on the application of theories of human agency, capabilities, self-direction and self-regulation, and the life course in learning and development. I have over 135 scientific publications, including 2 books, co-authored with over 55 collaborators internationally. I have led over 20 collaborative research projects spanning interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international partnerships. In 2019-2024, I co-directed a dkk 57 million cross-institutional strategic initiative on technology-enhanced learning at CBS. I have secured substantial external funding from diverse sources, such as national research councils (e.g. UK ESRC), industry (Shell, BP, Centrica), professional bodies (UK Higher Education Academy, the Energy Institute), European agencies (Cedefop), foundations (Volkswagen, Alexander von Humboldt, Carlsberg), and supranational organisations (World Bank).
