Master in Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Management

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

You are qualified for (but not guaranteed) admission to the programme if you:

A) Fulfil the language requirement by the application deadline
B) Fulfil the specific entry requirements below
C) Have a bachelor degree (or will by study start)

The programme has a limited number of places. If there are more qualified applicants than places available at a programme, there will be a selection process, according to the selection criteria below. In other words, fulfilment of the entry requirements does not guarantee admission.

English language requirement

The programme requires English at Danish level A.

The English requirements are very strict, which means that only the qualifications listed on the English level A page are accepted as alternative fulfilment.

The English language requirement must be fulfilled by the application deadline.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

To be eligible for admission to a 1-year Master, you must have completed an academic bachelor degree before the programme's study start. Applicants with professional qualifications (for example a professional bachelor degree/PBA) will not be admitted.

SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Your educational background will be subject to an overall individual assessment in order to establish if your bachelor's degree qualifies you for the programme and the academic areas listed below are covered in full and as prescribed:

  • 5 ECTS-points in Quantitative methods/Statistics
  • 25 ECTS-points in Business Administration (Marketing and/or Organisation and/or Management and/or Strategy and/or Innovation/entrepreneurship and/or Accounting and/or Finance and/or Economics)

CBS Admissions is not able to pre-assess your qualifications ahead of the application round.

To help you to prepare your application, you have the following two options:

  • Check below if we have already published an advance assessment for your bachelor degree
  • If your bachelor degree is not listed in the advance assessments below, you can make your own self-assessment using the self-assessment (course match) form further down

Advance Assessments

The following advance assessments are valid for the 2023 admission round for applicants whose bachelor degree exactly matches the university, degree title and enrolment year listed.

The advance assessments are based on the obligatory courses as listed in the programme regulations. If you have obligatory courses that have been credit transferred from elsewhere, we will not use the advance assessment and will instead assess your courses using the available documentation.

The advance assessments are grouped accordingly:

·       Qualifying Bachelor Degrees:
Your obligatory courses fulfil the specific entry requirements

·       Potentially Qualifying Bachelor Degrees:
Your obligatory courses do not fully cover the specific entry requirements. You will therefore need to either choose relevant electives or take supplementary qualifying courses to fulfil the requirements.

·       Non-qualifying Bachelor Degrees:
Your obligatory courses do not fulfil the specific entry requirements and it is unlikely that elective courses and/or taking supplementary qualifying courses will help you to fulfil the requirements in full.

Your bachelor degree could be placed in different categories for different enrolment years.

Fulfilment of the entry requirements does not guarantee admission. Read more under ‘Selection Criteria’.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The programme has a limited number of places.

Only applicants fulfilling the specific entry requirements are considered qualified and will be considered in the selection process. If there are more qualified applicants than places available, selection criteria will be applied.

To determine which of the remaining qualified applicants receive an offer of admission, an overall assessment of their academic background at undergraduate level will take place.

The following factors are of importance:

  • Relevance of educational background at undergraduate level, including general grade level
  • Courses and grades within Quantitative methods/Statistics and Subject-specific academic areas (Tourism, Hospitality, Service-, Sport-, Leisure- or Arts and Culture Management)
  • Personal statement
  • Connection to the Danish labour market
Personal statement

The personal statement is an important element of your application. It is your opportunity to draw our attention to your academic accomplishments and professional experiences and to stand out from hundreds of other applicants. It is very important that you write a personal statement specific to the programme or concentration you are applying for admission to, as it will be carefully considered during our evaluation of your application.

Your personal statement should not exceed two A4 pages and must be written in English. You may decide for yourself which information you consider to be of most relevance and which information to omit. Recommended topics include:

    • Describe and discuss the prior academic accomplishments you find most relevant to your application
    • Describe and discuss the prior professional experiences you find most relevant to your application
  • If you have an existing connection to the labour market in Denmark (for example via a student job with a Danish company, internship in a Danish organisation or another professional network in Denmark) make sure to mention it. If you don’t have one, please move on to other topics

Tell us what you want to study at CBS and why

  • Why are you interested in this academic field? Which specific academic criteria or professional experiences is your decision to pursue studies in this field based on?
  • Why this programme/concentration?
    • Please review the programme/concentration description. Are there any keywords or themes that immediately grab your attention? Which ones and why?
    • Which theme or component will you find especially challenging? Do you have any strategies in place to overcome these challenges?
  • Given what you know about CBS, why do you want to study this programme/concentration at CBS compared to other universities? What academic or professional criteria helped you choose CBS?

Tell us about your academic or professional plans after CBS

  • Which academic or professional characteristics do you want to develop in the future? How will pursuing this programme/concentration further your growth in these respects?
  • What are your plans after graduation? Please specify concrete career trajectories or advanced academic paths, making sure to outline the connection between your prospective graduate studies and your long-term objectives.
