Centre for Owner-Managed Businesses have just been granted funding from the Danish Industry Foundation for a new project, which focuses on the importance of the board and the management in owner-managed businesses for long-term planning and ownership. Head of Research from COMB, Ph.D. and Professor at CBS, Niels Westergård-Nielsen, will head the research project, which will be based on the project to improve the transfer of ownership to benefit the growth of the business, and include how the management changes the management style before and after a change of ownership.

The purpose of the research project is to develop the management in Danish owner-managed businesses for the benefit of the "good" transfer of ownership, in which the company can continue after the transfer of ownership. As a significant part of the businesses who have a change of ownership, do not survive the first five years of the new ownership, it is important to identify the management challenges for the businesses. The project is expected to contribute to Danish businesses exploiting the vast knowledge that lies in the analysis of the Danish company data to increase their competitiveness, growth, job creation and profitability among owner-managed businesses in Denmark.

The project will culminate in two knowledge reports, a decision tree on the establishment and development of board of directors, as well as case studies to exemplify managing methods on an internet platform. Themes and tools in the project will be presented in Centre for Owner-Managed Businesses' courses and workshops, as well as a number of seminars for communicating the generated knowledge and tools in the project.
