Nini

Meet Nini, a student from BSc in International Business and Politics

Why did I choose my programme?
I have always found politics interesting, but I knew that a bachelor’s degree in political science would be a bit too intense for me. So, when I was working in London, I was introduced to the world of business and economics, and naturally the bachelor's degree in International Business and Politics caught my attention.

What do I like the best?
The social environment at IBP is great. Despite the common belief that IBP is competitive and ambitious, and that people might not want to help one another, I have experienced the opposite. Everyone is so openminded and always keen to help and motivate each other. On top of that, there are loads of social and academic events at IBP where you are guaranteed lots of fun.

What do I think is difficult?
I found it quite challenging to learn how to study again after a couple of gap years. All courses in the programme require different study techniques, and some courses are more time consuming than other courses. In addition, managing my time between university, work and social life has been challenging, so after a while I realised that 24 hours a day are simply not always enough.

What would I have liked to have known before starting my programme?
University is not the same as high school. The classic everyone has been told, including me. I reckon I had to experience it first hand before actually understanding what it meant. You have to work way harder at university, and sometimes hard work does not equal a top grade and that is okay.

What do I want to do after finishing my programme?
After finishing my  bachelor's degree, I might take a year off to go travelling before it is too late. Afterwards I will start working or begin a master's degree preferably in another country. But there is still plenty of time to figure that out, so I am not too worried.

If I could give myself a piece of advice, before starting it would be…
Starting university can be overwhelming. You might have to move to a new city, adapt to the new student life, start working and in general start a new chapter of your life. But remember to take your time! Do not stress about not being on top of your studies and whether or not you have met your best friends after the first few weeks. It will eventually all work out in the end, and you will have the best time at IBP.
