Meet CBS at the 2016 People’s Political Festival

Is the knowledge society no longer on the agenda? What are three typical recruiting errors? And what can Denmark do so that more women hold top positions in research and industry? CBS will participate in over 20 debates when politicians, researchers and many others meet to participate in the People’s Political Festival on the island of Bornholm.

The People’s Political Festival on Bornholm is a yearly reminder that Denmark’s open democracy is worth protecting and worthy of appreciation. The four-day event reflects this with the participation of opinion leaders, NGOs, universities and many others in numerous events. This year’s festival will be from 16 to 19 June.

Thesis salon: 10-minute recaps

CBS graduates are among the 30 young people who will present their thesis in just 10 minutes. Several blocks of time are set aside at the People’s Political Festival for recent graduates to talk about their thesis, what they’ve learned and how their knowledge can be used in the future.

Taking full advantage of the talent pool

Per Holten-Andersen, President, CBS will discuss what Denmark needs to do to have more women in top positions in Danish research and industry, as well as how various stakeholders can contribute. Other participants in the debate will include Ulla Tørnæs, minister, Ministry of Higher Education and Science; Marianne Egelund Siig, Head of Diversity, Nordea; Lykke Friis, prorector, University of Copenhagen; Tina Jess, MD, chief physician and associate professor, Aalborg University and deputy chair of Det Unge Akademi, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospitals; and Christian Kurt Nielsen, CEO, Mercuri Urval.

Energy market stalled: Who has the jumper cables?

Peter Møllgaard, Dean of Research, professor, CBS will discuss how to create more efficient energy markets. The other participants include: Thomas Egebo, permanent secretary, Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate; Carsten Smidt, deputy director, Danish Competition and Consumer Authority; Ole Hvelplund, CEO, NGF Nature Energy; Jette Miller, CEO, The Free Energy Companies; and Jens Astrup, moderator and head of department, Danish Agriculture & Food Council.

Should DONG Energy have a say about its employees’ sleep?

Anders Raastrup Kristensen, expert in boundaryless work and external lecturer, CBS will discuss whether companies should help their employees to sleep better. Other discussants include: Hanne Blume, head of HR, DONG Energy; Mikael Rasmussen, sleep expert, Centre for Stress and Wellbeing; Frederik Preisler, partner, MENSCH; Anne Sophia Hermannsen, liberal commentator, previously suffered from stress; and Dorte Fals, journalist, Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

Professionalism and management: Clash or match?

Per Holten-Andersen, President, CBS take part in a debate on whether professionalism is threatened by modern ministries. A matter of trust: Are we taking care of the family silver?

Flemming Poulfelt, professor, CBS will take part in a discussion with Lilian Mogensen, CEO, Processing Business and HR, ATP; and Kim Simonsen, trade union chair, HK. Denmark ranks high on global confidence surveys. Various researchers point out that this high level of confidence is one of the reasons that Denmark, as a small country, is one of the most prosperous in the world. The question, however, is whether we are taking care of the family silver, or whether we are frittering it away on control mechanisms and documentation.

Copenhagen Science Slam

Stay updated on the latest research when three researchers, Anker Brink Lund, CBS, Troels C. Petersen, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen and David Bue Pedersen, Technical University of Denmark take part in a duel on the ability to disseminate information. The audience gets to decide who wins, which means the researchers must use creative and crooked means to ensure they get a vote. Stand up comedian Lasse Rimmer is the moderator.

The world’s best education or the world’s best state education grant?

Should we reduce the state education grant so we can improve education? Per Holten-Andersen, President, CBS will take part in a debate with Charlotte Rønhof, deputy chief executive, Confederation of Danish Industry; Ulla Tørnæs, minister, Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Left; Mette Reismann, spokesperson, Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Social Democrats; Søren Holm Johansen, CEO, Rambøll; Yasmin Davali, chair, National Union of Students in Denmark; and Lawand Namo, student and commentator.

Per Holten-Andersen, President, CBS will take part in a debate with Christine Antorini, chair, Danish Parliament’s Education and Research Committee; Jakob Engel-Schmidt, spokesperson, Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Left; Carolina Magdalene Maier, spokesperson, Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Alternative; Søren Bregenholt, corporate vice president, Novo Nordisk; Henrik Wegener, executive vice president, Technical University of Denmark; and Thomas Bjørnholm, prorector of research, University of Copenhagen. “When the Chinese are cheaper, we have to be better” has been the logic of successive governments since the 00s and was followed up by massive investment in education and research, but is the air leaking out of the balloon?

Fra Brexit to Dexit?

Ole Helmersen, Associate professor, CBS will take part in a debate with Jeppe Kofod, member, European Parliament, Social Democrat; Anders Vistisen, member, European Parliament, Danish People’s Party; and Stine Bosse, chair, European Movement. The referendum in the UK threatens the EU’s cohesion, and in Denmark there is scepticism towards the EU. What impact will a ‘No’ on 23 June have on the EU, and what can we expect in Denmark?
