Congratulations to Sina Smid who on August 28th 2023 successfully defended her PhD thesis 'Inequality and Redistribution: Essays on Local Elections, Gender and Corruption in Developing Countries'.

Abstract: Persistent economic and political inequalities in developing countries have intensified public debates about the causes and the implementation of redistributive policies. While inequality and redistribution are outcomes of political processes and institutions, this thesis addresses understudied aspects of political partisanship, gender, and corruption in Bolivia, Brazil, and Tanzania. Consisting of four distinct chapters, the thesis employs novel (quasi-)experimental methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to persistent economic and political inequalities in developing countries.

The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk
