Presentation

My research is centered on how concepts, practices, and temporalities impact cultural and social organizing. I am especially interested in the way we conceptualize “the common good” and its implications for how we address and solve the (grand) challenges of our day by organizing the present and diagnosing the future. My research contributes to contemporary discussions of: civil society, “the common good,” philanthropic gift-giving practices, and temporalities, as well as more theoretical and methodological discussions rooted in a relational-processual approach inspired by cultural sociology, pragmatism, and semiotics. In my current research, I investigate how the negotiations of “The Common Good” are translated into civil action and civil organizing over time. Particularly, the research sheds lights on the social inclusion/exclusion mechanisms involved in the process, and its consequences for future social actions.

Primary research areas
  • The empirical and conceptual development of Civil Society
  • The changing forms and organizing of the Common Good
  • Philanthropy and Gift-giving practices
  • The development and methodological application of a pragmatist approach to grand challenges
  • Temporalities and the relational-processual approach
  • Processual Methodology
  • Microhistory
  • Philosophy of science in a broad sense

I supervise at the PhD, MSc and BSc level and have done that for several years.

I have mainly supervised students from HA/Cand. merc. psyk., BLC, BSc Soc. and LPK at programmes from CBS and students from History and Anthropology from other universities.

I supervise at both the process and content level and expect the student(s) to turn up well prepared and always mail me a draft before supervision.

Other teaching activities

At CBS I have developed the BSc Soc. Programme; part of the HA Psyk programme and is part of the MPP Philosophy of Science group to develop PoS across different programmes. I am and have been part of several groups and research forums discussing university teaching and pedagogical philosophy in general and it-based teaching and teaching development in particular. I have a long track record of developing teaching programs at different universities.
