CBS board agrees to reject Helge Sander's merger plans in their current form.

09/07/2006

At a strategy meeting yesterday the CBS board decided to turn down Helge Sander’s current merger plans.

The primary reason the merger plan was rejected was that the Board does not have good evidence that a merger with DTU or Copenhagen University would improve both research and education.

A further rationale against the merger plans are that the current plans for merging would limit CBS’s opportunity to realize it’s strategic goal of providing the best business educations in Europe, at the top-level internationally. Already now work is going on to achieve international accreditation and certification by forging strategic allegiances the world over.

“To a certain extent it’s a good idea to integrate the research environments in order to utilize the research in bringing forth the best graduates. However not when exactly five or six universities have to be involved.” Anders Knutson states in an interview with Børsen today.  (I don’t know what he is trying to say, but it doesn’t make much sense.  Maybe he is trying to say: “To a certain extent it is a good idea to integrate the research environments in order to utilize the best information for our students.  However, not when as many as five or six universities have to be involved.”

The Ministry of Science will receive CBS’ answer on September 15th, 2006.

CBS collaborates both nationally and internationally

CBS has more than 300 collaborators the world over, and is a member of the well-known alliances, PIM and CEMS. Nationally CBS also has several collaboration agreements for research and education with a number of Danish universities. For example, there are on-going talks with Copenhagen University regarding offering language education together in order to optimize the available synergies.
