Globali'what?

Professor Torben Pedersen sets the stage at LO

05/18/2006

When LO from the end of May invites representatives to summit meetings all over Denmark the main item on the agenda will be globalisation; and Professor Torben Pedersen from Centre for Strategy and Globalisation will be setting the stage.  Under the headline “The Good, The Bad and the Evil – three scenarios for the Danish workplace in globalisation” he will be feeding the discussion among the representatives on how to handle globalisation in an offensive as well as a defensive manner.

Offensive effort is needed

“Globalisation is a political project that has created great advantages for Danish society. The advantages being that both companies and employees are able to adjust in the new global reality, where some products may be produced cheaper and just as well elsewhere in the world. But being among the best and the brightest is not to be taken for granted. It is an opportunity to be fought for. It is about getting even better so that we can attract more of the productive, creative and innovative activities to Denmark” Torben Pedersen says.

The summit meetings are held under the title “Globali-what”, which clearly

indicates the magnitude of the challenge. Different top people from the

federation of trade unions will open the five summit meetings. Among them

are Poul Erik Skov Christensen, Chairman of the Federation 3F, Hans Jensen,

Chaiman of LO and John Dahl, Chairman of HK will set the stage for Professor

Torben Petersen and the other speakers.

The all day summit meetings will take place in Helsinore (May 22nd),

Silkeborg (May 31st) Ringsted (June 6th) Ålborg (June 7th) Esbjerg (June

8th)
