The historical perspective on the development of business

Although there are many examples of businesses going bankrupt and having internal scandals, companies have a tendency to only focus on the positive. Looking at business in a historical context is therefore an important issue for the 10th annual European Business History Association Conference.  The conference will focus on the dynamics and the development of business history by analysing businesses at a corporate, national and international level.

This year CBS hosts the conference in which 150 researchers, primarily from the US and Europe will participate. Leading keynote speakers including Richard Whittington of Said Business School, Oxford will be presenting on the latest research in the field and Professor Neil Fligstein of the University of California, Berkeley will be discussing the liberalisation and regulation of the global marketplace.

European Business History Association (EBHA) is an international association that works to create the greatest possible understanding of business history by bridging Economics, Sociology and Liberal Arts.

The conference takes place at Solbjerg Plads, CBS on August 17th and 18th. Read more on CBS’ calendar or

The CBS Centre for Business History is one of the initiators of the conference, which was established in 1999 and has expanded from 2 employees to 10 during this period of time. The centre which has a number of national and international collaborators and is leading in the field also does research on the collaboration between business, society and history “The conference is a symbol of the thriving research environment that we have at CBS and we look forward to seeing colleagues from all over the world” says Martin Iversen from the Center for Business History.
