The Global Corporate Responsibility Debate

Seminar

Monday, September 5, 2005 - 09:00 to 15:30

Each session presents different speakers who will discuss the following themes:

Session one

LAUNCH: SPECIAL ISSUE ON CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES ON CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY & DEVELOPMENT

An international group of researchers has made an innovative contribution to the debate on corporate responsibility (CSR) in the context of developing countries. This was published in the May 2005 special issue of International Affairs (IA), a leading international journal hosted by the Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), London. CBS is hosting the Copenhagen launch of the special issue. This will include an overview of the main points raised and reactions from donor, industry, and civil society/trade union perspectives.

Session two

SOUTHERN VOICES IN THE GLOBAL DEBATE ON CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Several authors from developing countries will share their views on the future potential and limitations of CSR in their national/regional contexts. So far, the CSR debate has been dominated by Northern NGOs, businesses, governments, and academics while Southern perspectives have not received a lot of attention. The central aim of the seminar is therefore to bring Southern voices into the CSR/development debate.

The seminar is arranged by the Department of Intercultural Communication and Management, Center for Corporate Values and Responsibility and Center for Business and Development Studies
