The Copenhagen Conference on Strategic Management 2005: "Building Competitive Advantage: The Roles of Entrepreneurship and Innovation"

Theme and Purpose

The central dependent variable in strategic management research is competitive advantage. Substantial parts of recent strategic management research have concentrated on the conditions that must necessarily obtain for (sustained) competitive advantage to exist. Less interest has arguably been devoted to processes of creating and re-creating competitive advantages, although the subject is by no means neglected (e.g. the notion of “dynamic capabilities”).

A focus on the creation of competitive advantages leads directly to entrepreneurship and innovation, because competitive advantages are so often founded in entrepreneurial, often innovative, acts. Thus, entrepreneurship and innovation should be seen as constituting the core of strategic management, rather than adjacent areas. The purpose of the Copenhagen Conference on Strategic Management is to address these dynamic core issues in the strategic management field.

In addition to exploring the conference theme, the purpose of this conference is to gather the Scandinavian research community in strategic management in order to establish closer contacts and platforms for cooperation.

This is the first conference in what the Strategic Management Group plans as an annual event.
