Managing Identities: New Media, New Methods

This symposium will bring researchers in Denmark together with several distinguished international scholars to present research that explores the dynamics that shape and influence the identities of both managers and the organizations they manage in a variety of different contexts.

In particular the symposium will highlight research that explores how various media technologies and narrative forms (for example, documentary film, portrait photographs, ethnography and autobiography) contribute both to the construction of managerial and organizational identities and to the development of new methodologies for understanding the dynamics of identity construction in these contexts.

The symposium will host a public screening and panel discussion of three short films developed by symposium participants in connection with their research on identity. The goal of the symposium is to introduce exciting new research on management and organizations to a broad audience, and to forge individual and institutional connections between researchers based in Denmark and scholars doing similar research at institutions in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Israel, and New Zealand.

We expect that these connections will inspire the formation of more formalized international research networks as well as the production of joint publications in the area of managerial and organizational identity construction.
