Entrepreneurial Sourcing: Purchasing for Manufacturing Entrepreneurs

SMG Seminar with Assistant Professor Chris Ellegaard from CAMS

Friday, May 13, 2005 - 12:00 to 13:00

Abstract

This paper seeks to place purchasing in the entrepreneurial context. Entrepreneurs work under specific circumstances that shape the purchasing challenges they face. The paper reports on a preliminary explorative pilot study, which is the first stage in a larger research project on entrepreneurial purchasing. The purpose of this pilot study is to identify relevant research areas for further investigation. Manufacturing start-ups in Western Denmark are investigated in an inductive qualitative research design. The results reveal four areas of further inquiry – the purchasing role of the entrepreneur, entrepreneurial relationship management, the resource scarcity of the entrepreneur and entrepreneurial network structures.
