Denmark and Japan have developed strong relations in trade and investment. Danish companies have benefited from the high purchasing power of the 127 million Japanese and Japanese companies are expanding their presence in the Danish market. Denmark and Japan also have a positive interest in each other in the cultural field. The state visit of the Danish Queen to Japan has underlined the importance of bilateral relations. “The forthcoming “2005 EU - Japan Year of People to People Exchanges” also provides good opportunities for strengthening Danish - Japanese relations. Ambassador Ogawa will talk about the main highlights of the Queen’s visit and present some reflections and thoughts on the future prospect of Danish-Japanese relations.

Ambassador Gotaro Ogawa, born in 1943 in Shizuoka Prefecture, has been in the Japanese Foreign Service for 36 years. He has been assigned to many countries in Asia and Europe, including the Philippines, South Korea, Cambodia, the Soviet Union, and France. He has served as Ambassador to Denmark since 2003.
