Uki Ovaskainen in recital

It is a quite extraordinary young musician you can hear at this concert. The official début will be on Wednesday at the Royal Danish Academy of Music but Uki is already an acclaimed musician. His first appearance as a soloist in front of an orchestra was at the age of 11. Being born in 1975 this makes his musical career already 19 years long at this point.

He is considered by anyone who has heard him an unusually gifted artist. He took his diploma at the academy with distinction in 1999 and performed Beethoven’s 5th Piano Concerto. A Danish critic, Jens Brincker, wrote:

“…(Beethoven’s 5th Piano Concerto) was performed by Uki Ovaskainen with an authority, unshakeable precision, artistic caliber and sense of sound that you wouldn’t expect from an academy student but only from a thoroughbred and experienced concert pianist. It was so magnificent and convincing that you started believing in reincarnation. This good could no 24 year old pianist play.”

The concert is free of charge, so take an extended lunch break and enjoy the music!

Uki Ovaskainen was born in Esbo, Finland. He started playing at the age of 5. He has studied at the EsboMusicAcademy and with professor Hui-Ying Tawaststjerna at the SibeliusAcademy in Helsinki. From 1996 he studied at professor José Ribera’s class at the RoyalDanishAcademy of Music. He graduated from the academy after only three years and returned four years later to resume studies with professor Ribera at his soloists class.
