CBS becomes partner in educational project

CBS has become part of an integrated project funded by the European Commission.

The project Next Generation Teaching, Education and Learning for Life, also called NEXT-TELL is opening the door to the 21st century classroom. The vision of the project is to create an innovative platform which can provide new tools for the teachers to improve the educational foundation for the teacher and the student.

A beneficial platform for everybody

The project is seeking to meet the needs of the modern classroom. This is being done by integrating a pedagogically-innovative, technology-supported and data-rich environment into the traditional educational processes. The new platform will increase the formative assessment of learning activities and provide activity monitoring tools, which on the one hand will help the teachers’ ability to assess the students work and on the other make the students more capable of negotiating their activities and grades.

In this way the learning will benefit all parts, as the work inside and outside of the classrooms will be far more evident and will make it easier for the teachers, students, parents and other stakeholders to follow the development of the learning.

CBS as the center forward

CBS’ role in the project is to develop the communication and negotiation layer. The NEXT-TELL team at CBS is headed by Associate Professor Ravi Vatrapu.

– We are the center forwards of the project. It is our job to communicate all the data in meaningful ways. It’s a little bit like the pilot in a cockpit with all the instruments. We are making these instruments available for the teachers, Ravi Vatrapu says and he continues.

– We want to support the pedagogical decision-making in the actual classroom and in real time.

NEXT-TELL started in September 2010 and will span four years to August 2014.

The EC is funding the project with a total of € 8.2 million and CBS’ budget share is € 550.000.
