CBS research published in Science

Aquatic farming is causing new environmental problems - especially in Asia. Recent research of the CBS Sustainability Platform, which has been published in the recognised journal Science, argues whether aquaculture certification is only a part of the solution

Aquaculture is a rapidly growing industry, and new research set the alarm bells ringing. It would be a mistake to believe that aquaculture is the solution to a great deal of the sustainability challenges that have arisen as a result of overfishing. Aquaculture causes new environmental challenges, especially in Asia,
and certification of products from aquatic farming and consumer choices cannot remedy that. The risk is that sustainability problems are moved from the sea to the coast, and history is thus repeating itself. Research points towards industry regulations, and Stefano Ponte, Professor at the CBS Sustainability Platform, has made a contribution to this research, which is published in this week's edition of the recognised journal Science.
