New research meets corporate demand

This Thursday, Professor Anne-Marie Søderberg and Professor David Lando clear their schedules when the Danish Business Research Academy presents its awards. Their research into cultural intelligence and credit risk, respectively, is awarded with the Danish Business Research Academy Award of DKK 200,000 each.

The Danish Business Research Academy Awards 2009 are given to two internationally recognised CBS researchers, whose research meets the businesses’ demand for new knowledge at this point in time. It is accomplished though groundbreaking and critical research into new analysis models for credit risk as well as through new, valuable research into how businesses prepare for the challenges on the global market. According to the Danish Business Research Academy, that is why the two CBS researchers stood out.

Cultural intelligence – a strategic resource

Professor Anne-Marie Søderberg from Department of Intercultural Communication and Management has spent years researching into how Danish businesses act on the global scene.

She has studied international mergers and acquisitions that have attracted attention – from international research circles as well as business leaders. Today, she manages the project ’Cultural Intelligence as a Strategic Resource’, where she and her colleagues study the way in which Danish businesses prepare and support their leaders and staff members in the development of a global mindset and attention to their own and other cultures.

- Anne-Marie Søderberg’s research involves the businesses in a new and groundbreaking way by, for example, establishing partnerships with the businesses. Such interaction between research and the surrounding world may help set new standards for corporate research, Jørn Lund, Chairman of the Award Committee for Culture and Communication, says.

Improved risk management

- David Lando's research into finance, risk management and credit risk is cutting-edge. The crisis has shaken banks and other businesses that are not used to going through hard times. David Lando is an example of a Danish researcher with great international influence. For that reason, we wish to award him with Danish Business Research Academy Award for Society and Business 2009, Lars Nørby Johansen, Chairman of the Award Committee for Society and Business, says.

Professor David Lando from Department of Finance at CBS is one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of credit risk. He has been keynote speaker at several international conferences and has given lectures at approx 50 universities and research institutions, including the University of Chicago, New York University, Princeton University and Stanford University.

David Lando manages to make his research relevant to the corporate sector and is therefore a valued speaker, who is often asked to give speeches at the central banks in the US and the UK, the European Central Bank, the Bank of International Settlements and at American and Europe-based investment banks.
