Video documentaries about the life as a researcher

A series of nine video documentaries illustrates research in a very practice-related way - as a job. The videos address young people who are considering a career in research and breaks with the perception that a researcher always sits alone in a dusty office. The key figure is 40-year old Martin Gylling who is a PhD student at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy.

Do what you are passionate about

Martin Gylling has been in the PhD programme for 5 months when he meets the camera crew for the first time and they follow him for 6 months.

- It is important to have the courage to do what you are really passionate about. If you want to study a PhD and become a researcher, your main motivation should be the opportunity to immerse yourself in what you are passionate about. To me, that opportunity is more important than going for the big bucks and an executive position, says Martin.

Fieldwork at the Danish Central Tax Administration

The first four episodes have just been launched. Here you can follow Martin doing field work at the Danish Central Tax Administration, where he is interviewing the employees. As a researcher it is necessary to see companies and organisations from the inside and collect data. In general, collecting and processing knowledge and data and having a dialogue with the outside world are prerequisites for obtaining results.

During the nine episodes you can join Martin for a conversation with his head of department and a research meeting in Berlin.
