Presentation

Reacting to institutional shifts like the GDPR and increased public skepticism regarding corporate collection and use of personal data, we now see both private and public organizations proclaiming their data management practices to be ‘safe’, ‘responsible’, or even ‘ethical’. Through multi-sided ethnographic fieldwork in a number of interrelated organizational settings, my research follows the complex processes of institutionalizing data management praxis and its re-enactment as responsible and trustworthy. Finally, it considers the implications for citizens in increasingly digitalized societies.
