PhD defence: Vanya Rusinova
As the interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its role in investment allocations grows, it is critically important for investors to understand the determinants of CSR in order to understand the value of CSR, especially if CSR becomes a new investment factor. In my Ph.D. thesis, I study CSR determinants through the use of natural experiments, such as changes to legislation, designed pilot studies, and the occurrence of extreme weather and climate events. The use of natural experiments allows me to test for and establish a direction of causality which is pivotal for investors seeking to include CSR as a component of their portfolios.
