Presentation

My academic interests center around gender, minorities and welfare state institutions. I am interested in social problems and specifically how and why some problems become social problems and how society and welfare states handle these social problems.

In my PhD project, funded by Offerfonden, I study how Danish police officers perceive intimate partner violence victims and incidents and how they handle these incidents. Specifically, I focus on the demands and expectations police officers have of intimate partner violence victims, how they perceive ‘real’ and ‘not real’ intimate partner violence victims and how these perceptions influence how they handle intimate partner violence incidents. Furthermore, I am interested in how police officers handle psychological intimate partner violence as these incidents are known to be difficult to prove. The aim of the PhD project is to get a better understanding of the challenges police officers face when handling intimate partner violence incidents.
