EMBA Graduation 2019

On Saturday 8 June 2019, 36 graduates took to the stage in Ovnhallen to receive their hard-earned degrees. As previous graduates will testify to, the CBS EMBA journey is a demanding undertaking that requires the support from organisations and families alike, and graduation day is a welcome milestone not only for the graduates but for their families, too.

Two students, one from the Executive MBA class and one from the Global Executive MBA class, received special attention from their classmates as they had been selected ‘Students of the Class’. This accolade is awarded to participants that go the extra mile to contribute towards the study environment. The EMBA class elected Armin Lindov (Siemens Gamesa), and the Global EMBA class Enno Hoffmann-Dose (Lundbeckfonden).

“The MBA taught me many new skills - it made me smarter and broadened my horizons,” said Enno Hoffmann-Dose in response to his recognition. “What I found most valuable, however, was interacting with people from completely different backgrounds. This gave me a new perspective on my own organisation."

Professors, too, were recognised on this ceremonial day. The Global EMBA class selected Ken Bechmann and Mike Bernon as ‘Teachers of the Class’; the EMBA class picked Magnus Larsson.

“We need leaders that above all possess integrity, courage, humility, humanity and open hearts,” said Magnus Larson in absentia. “I imagine you supporting each other both now and in the future, standing together as a bright demonstration of what leadership in business can be, and needs to be, in a world filled with turbulence, volatility and uncertainty.”

Ken Bechmann, who taught the course Corporate Finance to the Global EMBA participants, took to the stage to receive the award accompanied by the sound of his students applauding.

“I am very proud to receive this prize - I even opted to stay behind in Copenhagen as my family left for a long weekend so I could receive it in person!” he said in his speech. “It was a great pleasure teaching you Corporate Finance. At first, I sensed many of you feared this very topic - maybe because of several individual exams. However, you worked hard during the course, learned a lot and you came to realise how useful Corporate Finance is for understanding businesses. We summarised the course focus using a quote from the movie Jerry Maquire - “Show me the money” - but on this day, I would like to add: “You should have money in your head, but not in your heart!”

With those wise words, we would like to wish all 36 freshly minted Executive MBAs the best for their future and welcome them into the CBS MBA Alumni Society. We hope you will continue to learn and grow at CBS and use your peer network for inspiration on how to keep striving for leadership excellence!
