CBS Maritime at this year’s IAME conference – Wins Best Paper Award

CBS Maritime attended the 2016 Annual Conference of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), held in Hamburg August 23-26.

The theme of this year’s IAME conference, hosted and organized by Kühne Logistics University (KLU) and Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) in collaboration with University of Hamburg and Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), was "The Maritime Transport of the Future: The Role of Innovation Uptake, Sustainability and Availability of Shipping Finance”.

CBS Maritime was strongly represented with several presentations of ongoing, original research papers:

  • Lobrigo, E.: Transaction Cost Economics and Governance Structure in the Employment Contractual Relations of Brazilian Seafarers
  • Munim, Z. H. and H.-J. Schramm: Forecasting Container Shipping Freight Rates for the Far East-Northern Europe Trade Lane
  • Nowinska, A.: Spatial and Non-Spatial Proximity Based Antecedents of Collaborations in Ship-Broking.
  • Parisi, C. and C. Ø. Hansen: The Economization and Marketization of Sustainable Ship Breaking
  • Sequeira, C. B.: Port Authority Strategies: Entrepreneurial Opportunity Identification
  • Schram, H.-J., G. Prockl and P. Kolar: Capacities in the Liner Shipping Industry - are Resource Levels still Synchronized?
  • Sornn-Friese, H. and R. T. Poulsen: Ports as Sustainability Hubs in Global Maritime Supply Chain

Together with PhD Fellow Ziaul Haque Munim (University of Agder, Norway) Dr. Hans-Joachim Schramm from the Department of Operations Management (CBS) won the Palgrave-Macmillan Best Paper Award IAME 2016. Their paper “Forecasting Container Shipping Freight Rates for the Far East -Northern Europe Trade Lane” was selected among a strong field of candidates and will be published in the 2017 volume of Maritime Economics and Logistics (MEL).

During the conference, CBS Maritime co-hosted a special workshop bringing together academic partners in the international research network on “Green Shipping: Governance and Innovation for a Sustainable Maritime Supply Chain”.
