Sustainability Seminar Series - Satu Raijonen:“Boundary Objects, Power Effects and Coordination in the Work of Architects and Energy Engineers”

We would like to invite you to attend a seminar in the Sustainability Seminar Series, this time featuring Satu Reijonen, Post.Doc. Research Fellow at the Department of Organization at CBS. Satu will be presenting her research with the title: Boundary Objects, Power Effects and Coordination in the Work of Architects and Energy Engineers.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - 13:00 to 14:30

Technologies that facilitate cross-boundary knowledge management and work coordination are a familiar dimension of organizational reality. At this Sustainability Seminar, Satu Reijonen will discuss how boundary objects not only mediate between communities of practice, but also influence power structures, roles and relations within them. Through a case study of an energy performance calculation program that acts as a boundary object between architects and energy engineers, Satu Reijonen’s research suggests three domains within which a boundary object might have political effects on the context of cross-communal knowledge work on sustainable energy efficient buildings: language of coordination, object of the collaborative inquiry and the roles and relations of the professional groups in coordination. Here, boundary objects exercise a dual generative capacity, at once coordinating boundary work and configuring the social structures around it.

We appreciate if you register; please write to sustainability@cbs.dk to let us know that you are coming.
