Quota 2 works for CBS

CBS students enrolled through quota 2 are less prone to drop out and better at completing their studies within the prescribed period of study than students enrolled through quota 1

Quota 2 is under attack in the public debate. But CBS' completion rates motivate the opposite. Figures show that students enrolled through quota 2, which is the application group for students who need to be assessed on other factors than their GPA, are not as prone to drop out as students enrolled through quota 1. Furthermore, students enrolled through quota 2 more often complete their studies within the prescribed period.

Quota 2 come off best
                                                                                              Quota 1                Quota 2

Completion within the prescribed period of study:                        61.2 pct.               63.6 pct.
Dropout:                                                                                  28.2 pct.               24.7 pct.

The figures form CBS thus show that students enrolled through quota 2 have a more efficient completion pattern. So CBS' experience with students enrolled through quota 2 is very good. In 2012, the number of students enrolled on the basis of their experience and commitment and not just their GPA was increased.

If we compare students from quota 1 and quota 2 with the same age and the same GPA from post-secondary education, students from quota 2 are actually doing better than students from quota 1 than the above figures demonstrate.

Figures do not lie

Michael Møller Nielsen from CBS Evaluation and Accreditation has looked into the completion rates for quota 1 and quota 2, respectively:

”If we take a look at quota 1 and quota 2, the dropout rates among quota 1 applicants are 28.2 pct, while quota 2 shows a percentage of 24.7. This difference is too large to be called a statistical fluke. The difference is significant and indicates that quota 2 has the desired effect, says Michael Møller Nielsen in a comment in CBS’ independent newspaper, CBS Observer.

Uffe Elbæk, spokesman on educational affairs from the Danish Social-Liberal Party, has been criticised lately for not being able to prove his positive reference to quota 2 (in the Danish TV programme Detektor), and the political debate these days is also indicating that the students should embark on their studies quickly. CBS' figures show that students enrolled through quota 1 are more prone to drop out than students enrolled through quota 2. Statistically, it does not make sense to rush the students into university at any price - quota 2 works for CBS.
