Lykke Friis is new Associate Professor at CBS

On Friday 13 May 2005 Lykke Friis will, with the lecture “What if...The EU’s Constitutional Treaty and the French Referendum”, be appointed new Associate Professor at CBS within the areas European Studies and the Study of Europe.

A valuable sounding board

With her extensive theoretical authorship and her professional career, Lykke Friis will become an utmost valuable sounding board for – not only for the research in European political issues - but also for the development of CBS’ study programs.

“With the appointment of Lykke Friis, CBS will mark the connection between the academic research and the information of results to the public. Within areas such as European Studies it is especially important considering the current interest and the importance the area has for the everyday life of the ordinary Danish citizens. Lykke Friis has proved that she is able to communicate the often complicated EU matters to the public. Thus, it is a feather in the cap for European research at CBS that Lykke Friis has been appointed Associate Professor. We are looking forward to the cooperation”, says Michael Herslund, professor at the Center for the Study of Europe, CBS.

Too many walls in Denmark

“Contrary to the US there are too many walls in Denmark. There is still too little interaction between research, the business community and the central administration. As Associated Porfessor I hope that I can help to break down these walls”, Lykke Friis says.

“I am especially glad that the professorship primarily is aimed at European research. In spite the fact that Denmark is European champions in referendums, EU researchers are in short supply in Denmark. However, in a time where the EU member countries are going to handle a historic enlargement and find the answer to the challenges of globalization, there is much to tackle. Since CBS is an institution that embraces widely from EU competition policies over democracy problems to commerce and development politics, I look forward to a fruitful cooperation", she ends.
